Where Peace Lives teaches children to deal with conflict and aggressive behavior in a positive way through art and media programs.

The International Peace Mural Exchange allows young people to create and exchange murals depicting peace. The process teaches them how to resolve conflicts in a positive way. The intention is to reduce aggressive behaviors and give young people the tools to mediate tense situations. During the project, they will learn negotiation techniques and communication skills. Young people see how visual communication can and does impact cultural understanding by creating a new conversation for peace.

We fulfill our mission through the following two programs:

1. International Peace Mural Exchange Program An eight-week hands-on arts program that provides conflict resolution skills and an international cultural exchange.

2. Reel Peace: Kids Teaching Kids Peace Through Moviemaking A media program that allows students to work through issues using improvisational acting and script-writing resulting in movies to help solve problems.

According to the American Justice Department:

1 out of 4 kids is Bullied. The American Justice Department says that this month 1 out of every 4 kids will be abused by another youth.

Surveys show that 77% of students are bullied mentally, verbally, & physically.

46% of males, and 26% of females reported they had been in physical fights.

74% of 8 - to 11-year-old students said teasing and bullying occur at their schools.

100% say that students show an increased understanding and interest in conflict resolution and peace building.

100% say students were engaged in the conversations and participated fully.

100% say students share that they are using the skills learned in the program in their lives.

100% say that the program provided opportunities for students to draw conclusions, solve problems, and engage in meaningful discussions about conflict resolution and peace.

100% say that students demonstrated a shift in attitude and behavior.

90% say the program gave them a new way to talk with students about conflict resolution and problem solving.

Most importantly, 100% of teachers and administrators say they would be interested in continuing to do Where Peace Lives Programs to build a culture of peace in their schools!

Named one of the Top 50 projects in the American Express Members Project 2007 out of 7,014 projects submitted nationwide.

Our organization has been chosen to support building a worldwide Culture of Peace curriculum through the United Nations.

Presented in Costa Rica at the National Teachers Convention and the Bi-national Educational Encounter.
